Abstract: Northeast India, consisting of eight states, lies on the geopolitical periphery of India. In India, the region is ethnically the most diverse, with a vast diversity of languages and dialects. Despite its tremendous multiplicity in terms of language, caste, race, religion and ethnic groups, they share common features distinctive from the rest of India (Ahmed and Biswas, 2004), but having cultural affinity with Southeast Asia.
