Abstract: |
Qualitative research techniques have long been used by social and cultural anthropologists to analyse information gathered during field work. More recently psychiatrists, psychologists, psychiatric social workers and others carrying out mental health research have felt the need of using such techniques, for example, in studying phenomenology of mental disorder, relationship of social and cultural factors to actiology of psychiatric illnesses, evaluation of psychotherapeutic interventions, etc., where the data does not easily respond to numerical and statistical technniques. Unfortunately, not many in the field of mental health research are familiar with these techniques. |
