| Abstract: |
This paper focuses on the study of tools. It shows the centrality of action and cognition in studying tools. An alternative approach is proposed to justify the significance of tools in defining its users in relation to the material environments. It is argued that tool as non-elaborated aesthetic form brings back "the laboring life of the social whole" in center while "coping with the realities". These claims are illustrated with an example of fishing technique practiced in Sagardwip - an island off the coast of West Bengal, India. |
