Abstract: This work introduces a seven-layer Social Internet of Things (SIoT) protocol that links human relational principles with machine-to-machine cooperation. The design draws inspiration from Knapp’s relational framework, guiding devices from initial discovery to trusted interaction. Peer discovery uses epidemic-style dissemination, capability exchange is performed through gRPC channels, and trust values are updated using a PageRank-based scoring mechanism. Experiments with ten nodes in a Docker environment show trust-graph creation below 50ms and convergence in no more than five iterations. A hardware deployment using RaspberryPi, JetsonNano, and Windows systems records trust evaluation times of 7–9ms. A survey of 204 participants highlights high expectations for privacy (83%), ethical behavior (82%), and regulatory oversight (78%), demonstrating alignment between technical behavior and public expectations. Overall, the results demonstrate a practical and socially directed trust formation model for heterogeneous IoT environments.
