| Abstract: | They can be identified easily: in the malls and supermarkets with their electronic swipe ID cards hung around their necks; inside company organised taxis that ferry them from their homes to their offices during odd hours of the day and night; in the long lines to use the ATMs at various junctions in the cities; in hotels and cafes in small and large groups and in clinics and counselling centres bearing signs of fatigue and stress. They are the new youth ITES (Information Technology Enabled Services) brigade—employees of the many ITES companies that have mushroomed in the Indian metropolitan cities of New Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai, NOIDA/Gurgaon, Bangalore, Pune and Hyderabad, and are now springing up in towns such as Coimbatore, Tiruchirapalli and Mangalore. |
