Abstract: Rather than ask what metaphysics is in the context of politics, I would like to begin with the question: what are the stakes in a metaphysics of politics? Before listing the problems of metaphysics in the context of politics, consider a simple question of origin. The origin of metaphysics lies in the attempt to describe that which lies beyond 'physics'. But why this shift to metaphysics in the first place? Is it because the philosopher realizes that the descriptions of the physical need a substratum. Metaphysics arises as a condition f the possibility of the physical and as something that orders the physical as physical. Metaphysics is that which supplies an idea of what the physical is about. But since the fundamental characteristic of the physical was seen to be the 'real', metaphysics has been understood as the foundation of fundamental structures of reality.
