Conserving the Slender Loris (Loris lydekkerianus lydekkerianus).

The slender loris (Loris lydekkerianus) is a shy nocturnal prosimian that is
found in the dry and wet forests of the Western and Eastern Ghats. Hunting,
trapping, and forest fragmentation have greatly reduced its numbers to pocket
populations and urgent conservation measures are required to ensure its survival.
The behavioural ecology of the lydekkerianus subspecies of the slender loris was
studied for 21 months in a scrub jungle in the Dindigul district of Tamil Nadu.
Data was collected on its home range and ranging patterns, activity budget and
habitat use, social and reproductive behaviour and infant development. In this
report, information is presented on its activity budget, diet, habitat use, ranging
pattern, sexual behaviour and migration. These aspects of its socioecology are
being discussed here because of their particular relevance in forming management
strategies for the conservation of the
