Abstract: The report presents the findings of a study of migration, skilling and changing patterns of urban livelihoods, based on extensive field research in Bangalore and Raichur district, Karnataka. The study explores how the restructuring of India’s urban economy has reshaped patterns of mobility, work and aspirations of educated rural youth. By focusing on the production of a new service workforce by skill training centres, the report provides a critical assessment of current skill development policies and programmes.
